Hipster (contemporary subculture)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Hipster is a slang term that first appeared in the 1940s, and was reincarnated in the 1990s and 2000s often to describe types of young, recently settled urban middle class adults and older teenagers with interests in non-mainstream fashion and culture, particularly alternative music, indie rock, independent film, magazines such as Vice and Clash, and websites like Pitchfork Media. In some contexts, hipsters are also referred to as scenesters.
From Urban Dictionary:
definition 15 by a random hater: “a ‘hipster’: vneck wearing, pot smoking, photography lover, bike riding, skinny jean, weird-ass music listener. they are very easy to find step into stores such as, Forever 21, Urban Outfiters, American Apparel blah blah blah… Hipsters HATE being called “scene kids”. When you go into their myspace profile all you see is random retarded photography. They usually have large friend counts too. When they take photos they usually cover their mouths and heavily photoshop the pictures. Hipsters have taken over sites such as myspace, facebook, twitter and the most famous one TUMBLR. They think there cool because they wear ugly shoes and ride fixed gear bikes. Hipsters are like roaches. They can survive anything….even a nuclear bomb. but the most important thing you have to know about a hipster is….THEY ARE F*CKING ANNOYING”
Chrystine Marie’s turn:
LOL HAHAAHHAHAHAHHAAHA. Okay, ‘Hipster’ is basically a pointless label people give to themselves or to other people. And these days, it’s both a positive label and an insult. I think it’s stupid to give yourself or someone else a label. We all poo, we all eat, we all live to get paper, we all are learning more about the world and ourselves each day, we’re all very similar. The only difference is our social statuses. That’s what overshadows our similarities. People notice the differences and that’s what defines us and separates us. We’re all the freakin’ same. Let’s all get along now. And to all the ‘hipsters’ out there, you are human. Do what you want. To all the ‘hipster-haters’, you are human, too. You do you, let them be.
