Securing your originality is pathetic.
A rant that has been ranted many times. It’s Chrystine’s turn.
I understand how it feels when some bitch comes outta no where wearing the same shit as you. I understand how it feels when your favorite song that no one knew goes mainstream, and it’s especially worse when you introduce your friend to a particular song or artist and they say it sucks/the artist sucks — a couple months later, they will be blasting it in their cars. But please understand that it is annoying as fuck when people like you get out of your way just to tell me, “Since when did you listen to blablabla? I listened to them first.” or “I introduced you to that shit.” And sometimes it pisses me off even more when it isn’t even true, and the truth is that I found that shit on my own. Like no one gives a fuck if you knew them first. I understand that you probably feel unoriginal or it just pisses you off and there’s just no reason behind why it annoys you. I understand. But please know that you don’t own the song and the artist WOULD WANT lots of people listening to their music. You wouldn’t be a very nice fan to your favorite artist if you were keeping their shit in, instead of spreading the word. It’s not like I’m saying you have an obligation to spread the word just because you like their music, I’m just saying, it’s stupid why you would do anything and go out of your way just for other people not to discover “your” sweet beats. Like, why can’t you just listen to it and not give a shit, you know? How people view how original and unique you are should be the least of your worries. Trust me, I’m the same. Especially with clothes. But then I realized, if a bitch decides to copy me, it’ll be obvious who started the trend. Plus when I find a brand, it’s not like my intentions are to be a trend-setter. I really don’t give a fuck if someone is wearing the same shit as me, and sure a part of me is annoyed ‘cause that’s just a natural human reaction when you see someone else wearing the same shit and then you just feel no uniqueness. But it really isn’t a big fucking deal, you know. I don’t go around telling people that I started shit.
If you want to be original, just be you. Don’t cling onto tastes in music or fashion, because [1] There is a more than a billion people in this world and very few genres of music. And if you do the math: Chances are a third or more of those billion people share the same exact taste as you do. Your tastes in music does not define your originality. It’s only one teeny-tiny part that makes up your character. [2] #1 can also be applied to clothes. Your taste in fashion/clothing does not define your originality. It’s only one teeny-tiny part that makes up your character. It’s only one itty-bitty part of what makes you unique. With the exception of Lady Gaga, because she is, by far, the most original fashionista. And it’s not just her, there could be more. I’m just saying, Lady Gaga… well that’s self-explanatory. Lady Gaga is Lady Gaga. Who else would’ve thought of wearing what a tiger would call heaven. (Meat dress, if you didn’t get that.) And [3] Wikipedia says: “An original idea is one not thought up by another person beforehand. Sometimes two or more people can come up with the same idea independently.”
There is no highest or lowest level of originality, PERIOD. Sure, you can say that people judge you on your originality, but honestly, I think what you’re trying to attain is credit. And whatever you discovered that was unique, you want to take the credit for it.
What I’m trying to say here is that there is this bitch, I’m not going to say if it’s a girl or a guy, but keep in mind he-she is one annoying ass mother fucker. One day, I posted a song on Facebook, and the bitch decided to comment saying, “Who introduced you to this? I did! blablabla” some shit like that. REALLY? REALLY? C’mon man, why you gotta put me on blast like that? Why would you go out of your just to tell me that? You commented on the video post just to say that… omg. Then the mother fucker wants to say that he-she doesn’t like other people listening to their music blablabla, and that people like to bandwagon blablabla, and that he-she hates people who think their so cool and hypebeast and blablabla… and honestly, half the time, I don’t know what the hell this mother fucker is trying to prove.
That is exactly my question to everyone who is like this, including myself when I feel like “my originality is being taken away from me”. What exactly are we trying to prove?
Hence, securing your originality is pathetic. Stop trying and just do what you do.
Yes, I know it’s hard to be yourself. The phrase “be yourself” is bullshit because no one is ever themselves unless they are at home by themselves with no one looking. At least that’s how I see it. Fuck originality. Just live, god damnit.
*Btw, it took me forever to figure out how to change the color of fonts on this thing. Omg.
